PEARSON High tennis star Kaylin Bouwer led a good display by Eastern Province juniors when she captured three titles overall in two major Western Cape tournaments in the past fortnight.

Several local players contested the finals of tournaments in Boland and Western Province, with the sort of form they will be hoping to repeat when the junior circuit visits Port Elizabeth and East London next month.

Bouwer underlined her potential in the U14 age-group, winning the singles titles in both Boland and WP.

She had a tough workout in the Boland event, dropping the first set in the final against Bianca Wolmarans, but fighting back to win 3-6 6-1 6-3.

The past weekend she came up against Free State’s Carmen Fichardt in the final, winning 7-5 6-1.

Bouwer also captured the Boland doubles title, partnering Vanessa Chigariro to a straight sets win against fellow EP player Rochelle Pienaar and Boland’s Lize-Alet Morkel.

In the boys’ U16 division, Jandre Lessing and Heinrich Willemse have proved to be highly competitive, reaching the finals of both Western Cape tournaments.

They took the Boland title with a decisive 6-2 6-2 win over Jordan Sauer (GN) and Christian Wath (Boland), but had to settle for the runners-up spot in the WP event.

Lessing also reached the semifinals of the Boland tournament before being knocked out by Joshua Howard-Tripp.

Another EP player, Anja de Beer, partnered Free State’s Christine Kruger to the semifinals of both events before being eliminated.

The coastal swing now takes a break as the players head north in the new year for the Gauteng North Dunlop Open from January 4-8.

Nelson Mandela Bay will then host the first of the last two events of the coastal swing when the Eastern Province Championships will be played in Port Elizabeth from January 10-14.

The last tournament will be the Border Open in East London from January 15-19.

These tournaments will have singles and doubles events for boys and girls in the age groups 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, 16 and under, as well as for men and women in the open age-group.
