Seventh Night Surfing Classic great success

THE Sunset Surf Club celebrated another highly successful Night Surfing Classic when the event was held for the seventh time at Pipe on Pollok Beach at the weekend.

This year, in addition to the surfing contest, the club included a body board division and a skateboarding competition for enthusiasts to show off their talent.

The Night Surfing Classic started at 6pm on Friday, with a record entry of 86 surfers and 40 skateboarders.

Surfers who excelled in their respective divisions were Daniel Emslie (U10), Kelly Fenton (U12 girls), Dylan Hendricks (U12 boys), Brian Lightfoot (U14 boys), Kia Fenton (U16 girls) and Michael Monk (U20 men and open division), who was the surfer of the contest.

Among the older surfers to catch the eye were Wayne Monk (masters), Kurt Buchner (veterans), Peter Coffee (longboard) and Warren Canepa (body board).

The skate park and night skateboarding competition, coordinated by King's Beach Skateboarding founder Rieyaad Saban, was a hit as skateboarders of all ages competed in the street line and mini ramp categories.
