SAPS demolish Evergreen

A RUTHLESS PE SAPS qualified for the Cell C Community Cup by demolishing South Western Districts' Evergreen 73-14 in a one- sided rugby clash at Kemsley Park at the weekend.

The hosts, who have been on fire throughout this campaign, will play in the competition for the first time and made their intentions known early in the game.

The policemen wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, but the visitors managed to limit the score to a respectable 27-14 after 40 minutes.

The Port Elizabeth outfit must have received a tongue- lashing from their coaching staff at the interval, as they came back far more clinical and ran away with the game.

The second half was one- way traffic as the floodgates opened with the home side romping to victory.

As they have done all season, the SAPS team played as a unit, showing good cohesion.

SAPS now join former Community Cup champions Gap Despatch in representing the Eastern Cape.

The first games of the competition will be played in February. - Mkhululi Ndamase
