Grey U13A hockey side set record

THE Grey Junior under-13A hockey team achieved one of the best seasons in the school's history when they went through their programme unbeaten.

The last time the Grey U13A side was unbeaten was in 1984 when they won seven out of nine matches, drew the remaining two and scored 45 goals while conceding 18.

In comparison, the class of 2014 won 22 matches and drew two, scoring 113 goals and conceding four.

The team competed against Nelson Mandela Bay schools as well as top sides from the Free State, Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

The team was coached by James Atherton and captained by Ricky King. A total of 10 members were selected for the EP A provincial side which came second at the national tournament held in Bloemfontein in July.

In terms of goals scored and conceded, the team set new marks for Grey Junior. In scoring 113 goals they surpassed the mark of the 1987 team (100 goals), while the previous mark for goals conceded was five, achieved by three teams. This year's team let in only four goals.
