Reserve Chilli Boys triumph

CHIPPA United's reserve soccer side demolished Free State Stars 6-2 in a Multichoice Diski Challenge at the Gelvandale Stadium yesterday.

The young Chilli Boys registered their first win of the competition after losing their two opening games.

The home side dominated the first half, scoring three goals.

They continued to exert control after the break, slotting three more before the visitors netted two consolation goals.

Chippa United reserve side coach Eddie Dyaloyi said soccer was all about confidence.

"I think I'm happy, but if I can tell you, it was a must-win game for us at home," he said.

"It is very important for us to progress to the quarterfinals of this competition and it will eventually give the players good exposure."

YOUNG Ideas became log-leaders in the Safa-NMB SAB League on Saturday when they beat rivals Central Acemates 2-1 at the NU9 Stadium,  Mogan Segadavan reports.

The teams went into the clash unbeaten and level on points.

Although it is still early in the season, Ideas, from Motherwell, are determined to win promotion to the ABC Motsepe League and have partnered with Walmer outfit Mabayibone Strikers to strengthen their squad with younger players. The partnership allows for free movement of players between the clubs.

Newly promoted Royal Bucks, who are now second, retained their unbeaten record with a 1-0 win over Highland Spurs. Bucks are two points behind Ideas, with Acemates third.

After three consecutive draws, Fairview Rovers beat Callies 2-1 in their own back yard in Londt Park. This is Callies' second defeat in four starts and their worst start since they entered the league.

In the biggest surprise of the weekend, struggling Peace United recorded their first win of the season when they beat high-riding Hotspurs 2-0 at the Walmer High School field. Spurs' scalps in their last two matches included pre-season favourites Lion City, whom they beat 2-1.

Following their 3-2 defeat by Motherwell Academy, Ikamva Movers are now the only team in the league without a point.

Next week the league programme will take a break as all the teams will be playing in the lucrative Nedbank Cup competition.
