Callies, Glenville stay ahead

NAFA Premier League contenders scored close victories at the weekend.

Bloom Callies retained top spot after scraping home to a 1-0 win over Shamrocks.

Defending champions Glenville, who have two matches in hand, beat Wolves 1-0. Hotspurs blew their chances of winning the championship when they lost 1-0 to Helenvale.

At the bottom of the log, tailenders Chatty United were thumped 4-2 by Stardrift while Saints picked up an invaluable point when they drew 3-3 with Park United.

THERE was drama in the Pefa League Cup over the weekend.

At Londt Park Callies beat Forresters in 12-goal thriller.

The Londt Park outfit led 3-0 at the break, but Forresters struck back to level the scores. Callies scored twice to make it 5-3, but Forresters did not give up and made it 5-5 to force extra time.

In extra time Callies eventually won 7-5.

Both Sheniel Benn and Cleavon Draai scored hat-tricks for Callies. Bernito Esau added the seventh goal.

Callies Reserves beat Central Acemates 5-4 on penalties. Full time score was 0-0. - Mogan Segadavan
