St George's take Pefa U9 title

THE Pefa U9 soccer league had a thrilling finish this weekend when both St George's Aces and Callies Highlanders won their matches, only for St George's to take the honours on goal difference.

St George's Aces beat Callies Thistles 1-0, while Callies Highlanders beat Priory Rangers 2-1 for the teams to both finish the competition on 21 points.

Callies Thistles finished a respectable third place, with the Priory Rangers close behind them. The St George's Braves topped the B section, with Priory United second.

Having secured the U11 league title three weeks ago, Callies U11A played some entertaining soccer against PE City on Sunday, despite the match's ending in a 0-0 draw.

After a disappointing start to the season, St George's U11A finished strongly in the second round to end second. Mabayibone FC finished third, followed closely by PE City and Priory.

Already crowned U13 champions, Callies went on to finish in fine style with a 9-1 drubbing of United Brothers at Londt Park. Jared Grassow netted a hat-trick.

St George's ended second, with United Brothers third.

In their final game, Highbury beat Motherwell 2-0.

The U15 league title, still up for grabs, will be decided when the two top teams, Callies and Motherwell, clash at VP at 11.30am on September 14.

Hearts Eagles finished in a respectable third place after a 2-2 draw in their final game against St George's Rangers on Sunday.

In other games, Calvi Staisch scored a hat-trick for Callies A against NMMU.

In the U17 division, United Brothers and St George's played to a 1-1 draw, while NMMU and Highbury also ended in a deadlock (3-3) at the Missionvale campus.

Motherwell beat KwaDwesi All Stars in a 5-2 goalfest at Kemsley Park, propelling them into league contention with St George's. These two teams meet at 6.30pm on Thursday at Union to decide the league title.

On Sunday, the Pefa Junior Knockout Cup semifinals will be played around the metro.
