Bay wrestling promotion joins global alliance

NELSON Mandela Bay-based World Wrestling Professionals (WWP) has signed a major international deal which will see it partner with organisations from around the world.

The American-based Global Force Wrestling (GFW) promotion has added WWP to an alliance which already includes top promotions including AAA in Mexico, New Japan Pro Wrestling and organisations throughout Britain and Europe.

WWP is the biggest federation in the southern hemisphere, and is based in Nelson Mandela Bay but puts on shows across Africa and India.

GFW promoter and semi-retired wrestler Jeff Jarrett said: "I have spent a significant amount of time wrestling in India, so I know there is a passion for it there. There's potential to reach a huge audience in that part of the world, and we hope to tap into that in any way that we can.

"Our fans might be surprised at the talent WWP already has."

One of WWP's biggest annual events will take place in South Africa in October. WWP owner/promoter Mark Beale said: "Jarrett is known to fans in the southern hemisphere, so the opportunity to work with him and Global Force Wrestling is great for us. We can see the potential for mutual benefit."
