WP take Craven title as EP third

WESTERN Province finished the 2014 Coca-Cola Under-13 Craven Week in Durban as the top team after claiming a 29-14 victory over Border.

The win meant WP were the only team to come through the week unbeaten.

Eastern Province claimed third place following a narrow 14-13 win over the Leopards in the main curtain-raiser.

The final featured a contrast of playing styles. Province had the stronger forwards and three of their five tries came from driving mauls, while Border had the most exciting backline at the week.

They managed to score two tries in the final, but their speedsters never saw enough of the ball and Western Province were good value for their win in the end.

There were two tries each for EP and the Leopards with Ayabulela Bulembo and Michael Paddock scoring for EP and Gideon Van Wyk and Rossouw Karsten for the Leopards, with a conversion making the difference in the end.

The final day results were: Namibia 24 Zimbabwe 24; Golden Lions 25 Pumas 20; Blue Bulls 14 Griquas 7; Griffons 10 Border 10; Country, Cheetahs 20 KwaZulu-Natal 17; Limpopo Blue Bulls 24 SWD 17; Valke 12 Boland 5; Eastern Province 14 Leopards 13, Western Province 29 Border 14.
