Humdingers on cards in President's Cup clashes

HARLEQUINS will be looking to build on recent success when they lock horns with African Bombers in the President's Cup in Zwide tomorrow.

Quins kicked off their campaign in grand fashion last week with a much-needed victory over Park.

This was after consecutive losses in the EP Grand Challenge that saw them finish the first round of the league rooted at the bottom of the log after only managing a single victory.

But in last week's game, the northern areas side came to the party and got the needed confidence boost.

They go into the Group A clash eager to repeat last week's heroics, but it will take everything they have to claim the points against the home side.

But the visitors will be aiming to start giving all the sides that beat them in the Grand Challenge a taste of their own medicine.

Another Group A game that should be interesting is Park against Gap Despatch at Londt Park. Park are fresh from an embarrassing defeat against Quins and hope to make a statement against one of the Cup's favourites.

But the heavy 101-0 defeat Park received from the visitors in their last game will still be fresh in the home side players' minds. Despatch will have to guard against complacency or else they might be stunned by the wounded lions.

Kick-off is at 3.30pm in both games. In Group B, Caltex Crusaders will welcome the Brumbies at Saders field.

The Port Elizabeth outfit go into the encounter high in confidence as they had the better of the Grahamstown side when they last met.

Saders are eager to transfer their Grand Challenge form into the Cup as the visitors finished the league on song.

They hope to further sink their opponents as the Brumbies did not have the best of finishes in the league.

The game is at 2.30pm.

In what should be a nail-biting Group B game, Spring Rose will go to war against Gardens at the New Brighton Oval.

Both sides go into the potential thriller on the back of victories from the Grand Challenge. But the Super 12 champions were the most consistent in their last three games.

Rose have home advantage but it will take nothing less than their A-game to put the Rosedale side to the sword.

Kick-off is at 4pm. - Mkhululi Ndamase
