Madibaz grab first netball win

A RESURGENT Madibaz netball team made a strong showing against the University of Johannesburg to chalk up their first win of the University Sport South Africa tournament at NMMU yesterday.

The hosts played a strong attacking game, with goalshooter Eileen van Zyl on top form at the net, to beat the Gauteng-based team 52-38.

The victory was short-lived however as Tuks turned the tables on them later in the day to take a commanding 56-27 victory over the Madibaz in their final match of the round-robin section.

The result sees the home team move into fifth place overall in the A-section, which means they will now play a critical promotion-relegation match today to remain in the top half, which is known as the Super league.

The Madibaz will take on the second-placed team in the lower Premier league in their do-or-die encounter.

The match takes place at 11am at the NMMU Indoor Sport Centre.

The national student championships wrap up with the A, B and C-section finals tomorrow.
