Punters face tricky card at Fairview
PUNTERS face another tough day at the Fairview polytrack.
The card does not look too attractive but eight very competitive races lie ahead.
The exotic bets will be a challenge, as usual, and the Pick 6 is getting almost impossible to catch countrywide.
The racing operators do get excited about all the carryovers that make the big pools easy to promote.
Today, the Pick 6 pool is expected to reach R750000, but next Saturday, on Vodacom Durban July day, a massive pool of R11-million is predicted.
An interesting competition at the TAB is to predict the July Pick 6 pool. That might prove a bit easier than catching the bet!
Next Friday, Fairview will be the place to be with two listed races topping the bill. Don't miss the longest race in Africa, the PE Gold Cup over 3600m.
This coming week we will all be trying to find the July winner.
Regular punters can expect a few "old friends" suddenly making inquiries about the possible winner.
July day still remains the one racemeeting that grabs the attention of a wider audience.
As always, the draw for barrier positions for the big race was a huge occasion and well done to race operator Gold Circle for putting up a great lunch at Greyville.
There were two big talking points at the draw.
The Brett Crawford-trained Futura got a lot of attention. Some pundits felt Futura was lucky to make the field, but then the talk turned to him being a possible winner.
Crawford and jockey Glen Hatt are optimistic about their chances, especially with a good draw.
The other discussion point was about the wide draw of the favourite, Legislate.
Trainer Justin Snaith was clearly upset with the draw and jockey Richard Fourie will have his work cut out to bring the favourite home.
For some the big moment at the draw was not Futura or Legislate, but a photo opportunity with the two Marilyn Monroe lookalikes!
