Safa disputes Keshi for Bafana story

THE South African Football Association (Safa) has dismissed news coming out of Nigeria suggesting their national coach, Stephen Keshi, has agreed to be Bafana Bafana coach.

The story, which was written by a website called naij.com, said Keshi, who is at the World Cup in Brazil with the Super Eagles, had signed a two-year contract with Safa to coach Bafana Bafana.

Keshi's supposed appointment followed reports at the weekend linking Carlos Queiroz – who with the Nigerian coach is one of the candidates for the job, having also submitted his CV – more directly with the post after he said he was leaving Iran for an African team.

Naij.com quoted an unnamed source from within the Nigerian football structures claiming: "I can confirm to you that the deal between Keshi and Safa has been signed and sealed."

But yesterday Safa communications manager Dominic Chimhavi sent naij.com an e-mail disputing their story as "Safa will only make the decision on the appointment of the new coach next month".
