Pearson down Kingswood in thriller

THE Pearson boys' hockey team emerged triumphant in an entertaining encounter against Kingswood in Grahamstown at the weekend.

An early goal by Pearson's Pierre Cilliers set the tone for the game, but Kingswood soon hit back with the equaliser.

However, the PE team regained the lead with a well-worked goal after a good build-up to make it 2-1 at halftime.

Soon after the interval, the Pearson boys put together another well-organised penalty corner to increase their lead to 3-1.

Kingswood kept applying pressure and were rewarded with a penalty corner, but Pearson's defence stood firm.

The visitors then scored on the counter-attack to take a telling 4-1 lead.

Kingswood were not done, however, and bounced back with two quick goals but could not make up the deficit as Pearson held on for a 4-3 result.

The Pearson U16 team excelled in their clash after the game was deadlocked at 2-2 at halftime. The visitors took control in the second half and fired in eight goals to win 10-2.

Thanks to hard work by the players and the coaches, Pearson have excelled on the hockey field this season, supplying 22 players to the various EP junior teams.
