Thrilling derby encounters expected in EP Grand Challenge

LITTLE motivation will be needed from the coaching staff when African Bombers lock horns with rivals Spring Rose in what should be a nail-bitting EP Grand Challenge township derby in Zwide tomorrow.

While Bombers have been playing some scintillating rugby, they have been guilty of not concentrating for the full 80 minutes and have been severely punished in the dying stages of games on more than one occasion.

Both sides go into the potential thriller high in confidence after digging deep to narrowly edge Kruisfontein and Progress respectively last weekend.

The Zwide side, which has been the most inconsistent of the two, aim to get the best of their New Brighton opponents, but anything less than 100% will not be enough against the visitors.

Friendships will be tested and households will be divided when Progress welcome Gardens at the Uitenhage Central Fields in another derby.

The home outfit are eager to get back to winning ways after going down 19-15 against Rose in their last game, but momentum is with Gardens who overcame the Brumbies 35-15 last week.

In the last showdown between the two, Gardens had the better of Progress, beating their rivals 16-10 to clinch the Eastern Cape Super 12.

Fresh from a bruising encounter against Gap Despatch last week, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University host PE SAPS at the university's south campus.

The in-form policemen go into the game wanting to prove they did not humiliate struggling Harlequins 38-7 by chance, but it will take everything the visitors have to put the dominant students to the sword.

Park will have a mountain to climb when they square off against Despatch at Londt Park.

But the visitors will have to guard against complacency or else they might be stunned by the Port Elizabeth team.

Caltex Saders travel to Grahamstown to play the Brumbies.

The Port Elizabeth side is highly motivated after an impressive victory against Park last week and have produced some good performances in the campaign.

The Brumbies are eager to redeem themselves in front of their supporters after failing to get maximum points against Gardens.

All the games kick off at 3.30pm.
