THE PE Club pairing of Andrew Stuart and Helgard Zietsman became the new Wembley Men's Doubles tennis tournament champions in the final at PE Club on Saturday.

With a full field of 78 players, the event produced some quality tennis, with Stuart and Zietsman qualifying for the final by winning their section.

Their opponents in the title round were Hennie de Klerk and Patrick Grewar, who made an early break in the final, contested over one tiebreaker set.

However, Stuart and Zietsman broke back and then took the advantage once more to claim the title with a 6-4 result.

Garth Loest and Rodney Dold-Chapman took the honours in section 2A, while Don Hammond and Sean Wilkenson won section 2B.

Krippin Coopoosamy and Dane Rowley prevailed in section 2C.

Tournament director Gavin Cullen said yesterday the event, played in excellent weather conditions, had been another great success and that it was now firmly established on the EP tennis calendar.

"This was our third event and it went off extremely well," Cullen said. "All the feedback I have had has been positive and we will definitely be back on the calendar next year."

Having established the event permanently, Cullen said ways of extending it to include a women's section were being discussed.

"There have been some requests for that and we will definitely consider that for next year," he said.
