Rivals in nail-biting games

THIS year's edition of the annual Collegiate Girls' versus DSG sports derby was one for the history books.

Both schools celebrate their 140-year anniversaries this year and to mark the occasion and to recognise the importance of the ongoing sporting rivalry between the two schools, a special presentation of gifts took place before the start of the first hockey match.

Beautiful weather set the tone for a great morning of sport, with 27 matches being played (14 netball and 13 hockey). Both schools produced excellent play, with Collegiate and DSG each winning seven netball matches, and Collegiate winning seven hockey matches, drawing one and leaving the remaining five for DSG to claim.

The first team netball match produced a nail-biting finish with Collegiate taking the honours 16-15.

The first-team hockey match was just as exciting and showcased a skilful display of the sport.

Collegiate opened the scoring in the first half with a goal from Kerri Ackhurst. This was followed shortly by the side's second goal, this time scored by Kaleigh Graham.

However, the second half saw DSG refusing to let their opposition run away with the game. They scored a goal of their own through captain Annabelle Allanson from a penalty corner move.

The crowd were glued to the edge of their seats with only two minutes left on the clock as DSG fought to find an equaliser. However, Collegiate held off their attempts to take the honours 2-1.
