Resurgent VP post handsome Woodridge victory

AFTER the previous weekend's convincing defeat to Pearson, Victoria Park's first rugby team stepped up a few gears to restore some pride against Woodridge on Saturday.

VP showed greater intensity at crucial stages to win 36-19 against a side of similar ability.

Woodridge scored first with an unconverted try in the third minute after a full backline movement. VP struck back immediately though a brilliant try by No8 Sesona Macala. Flyhalf Roshaan Stembul slotted the conversion and shortly afterwards further extended his side's lead with a penalty.

However, Woodridge soon replied with a converted try of their own to regain the lead at 12-10.

This, however, was short-lived as Stembul brought the score back to 13-12 in favour of VP after converting his second penalty.

Woodridge scored their third try with a well-organised forward drive from a lineout. The successful conversion gave them the lead again at 19-13.

Macala scored his second try of the match to bring VP to within one point of their opponents. Stembul stole back the lead as he slotted the conversion and added a penalty just before half-time to make the score 23-19.

Woodridge finally crumbled under the pressure in the second half as VP took charge of proceedings. Stembul kicked a further two penalties and one more conversion after left winger Shaun Jacobson scored the final try of the day.
