Mixed fortunes for Pearson girls

PEARSON travelled to Uitenhage for their girls' netball and hockey fixtures against Brandwag at the weekend, losing the netball, but winning the hockey.

In the U18A netball match the final score was 34-25 to the hosts. However, the Pearson girls took the first team hockey game 2-0.

Although the netball score suggests a convincing win for Brandwag, the match was closely contested. From the outset, Pearson gave a good account of themselves and going into the last quarter they were only three goals in arrears.

However, Brandwag controlled the play in the last quarter to stay in front.

Pearson shooters Amanda Tyala and Carlyle Bromfield were excellent, but the number of unforced errors that occurredin the second half by the Pearson girls saw Brandwag earning a deserved victory.

In the hockey match, Pearson recorded yet another good result after beating Collegiate and Victoria Park in their previous two matches, taking control from the outset. The goals came from Michaela Kliment and Caitlin Gouws, who put Pearson on the scoreboard early in the first half.

The sturdy Pearson defence did not allow Brandwag to cross the halfway line and they were also strong on attack to give themselves a well-earned victory.
