NMMU look to keep unbeaten run

FRESH from an emphatic victory last weekend, NMMU will be aiming to continue their dominance in the EP Grand Challenge when they travel to Rosedale to clash with the wounded Gardens rugby team tomorrow.

The impressive students are again proving a force to be reckoned with in the league, despite not being eligible to play in the Cell C Community Cup, which is limited to non-varsity club sides.

It was business as usual last week for NMMU when they outclassed title contenders Spring Rose and they go into tomorrow's game with a 100% winning record.

But Gardens, who were stunned by struggling Harlequins in their last outing, will be hoping to redeem themselves against the strong student 15.

In another potential thriller, African Bombers welcome Progress in Zwide.

While Bombers lost their second consecutive game last week, the Uitenhage outfit had a day off.

In their previous game – against the Brumbies two weeks ago – they managed to pull off a narrow victory.

There is no shortage of entertainment when these two sides meet as they both play running rugby.

Gap Despatch will lock horns with the PE SAPS in Despatch and while both teams have been racking in the points, Despatch have been more clinical and ruthless.

But PE SAPS have shown they can rise to the occasion and are quite capable of stretching Despatch. Both sides boast big and strong forwards, and the game is likely to be won by the team who dominate the battle up front.

Having both lost their last games, Rose and Park will have everything to play for when they clash at the New Brighton Oval.

Rose could not cope against NMMU last week, conceding 38 points. Kruisfontein also reached 38 points against Park, although the Port Elizabeth team did not take the loss lying down.

Playing in front of their home fans should give Rose the edge.

Quins, who won their first game in this campaign last week after four straight losses, will want to build on that hard-fought win against Caltex Crusaders at Saders.

Saders, whose handling errors and lack of concentration at times have proved costly, will be looking to avoid a second successive defeat.

At the Humansdorp Country Club, Kruisfontein will battle it out with Brumbies. Both sides go into the game high in confidence after impressive victories against Park and Bombers respectively.

All the matches start at 3.30pm.
