AFTER a hectic holiday sporting schedule, St Andrew’s emerged triumphant in their long rivalry with Graeme College, defeating them 31-17 in their schools rugby clash at St Andrew’s on Saturday.
The first half was a scrappy affair with both teams making needless errors and giving away lots of penalties.
The teams went into the break 7-7 after St Andrew’s scored through a neat break by centre Tom Lane. The second half was a different story as St Andrew’s found their feet and gradually gained control, putting the visitors under pressure.
First, Grant Dixie scored to give St Andrew’s the lead after some good handling by backs and forwards. Then it was the turn of Brendan Owen and Brian Ferguson to extend the lead before Peter Kroon scored on the hooter to wrap up a good day for the team.
Graeme’s points came from tries by prop Xandre Vos and wing Fabio Mapaling, with Bradley Christian converting both and landing a penalty.
