Nico Malan gets better of Muir

HOSTS Nico Malan ran in four tries to defeat Muir 24-12 in a tough, physical schools rugby encounter in a windy Humansdorp at the weekend. The home side led 12-5 at the break.

Both teams come out blazing and did not give each other an inch on the field. Nico Malan used the wind to their advantage when in their 22m area to turn the Muir side around, putting the visitors on the back foot. In the stiff wind, Muir's forwards worked hard to cross the advantage line.

However, Nico Malan used similar tactics to run in two tries. Muir hit back when centre Lunathi Nxele showed some individual brilliance to cross the line just before the break.

A similar pattern followed in the second half. Nico Malan drew first blood in the second halfto extend their lead, but continuous pressure from Muir saw the home side make a defensive error for wing Xolela Daniels to run in a try from 45 metres out to make it 17-12. A lapse in concentration from Muir allowed Nico Malan to cross for their final try, which was converted, to secure a solid win.

Muir flanks Siphelele Latola and Mziwamadoda Goba stood out for their team, while captain Nxele led by example.
