No easy games this weekend

IT will be the lull before the storm in the Safa-NMB SAB soccer league tomorrow.

With three matches remaining, including this weekend's clash, Subs have a one-point lead over Lion City, with Callies a further point behind. Last week, the match between City and Callies was called off as the field was waterlogged. Callies and Subs clash in the final match of the season next week.

This weekend, none of the title contenders have easy matches. Subs host Camper United at the NU9 Stadium. United, who held them to a 1-1 draw in the first round, are seventh on the log.

Although City thrashed Tomorrow Stars 4-0 in the first round, they will not find it easy at the NU9 Stadium this time.

Stars are in real danger of being relegated if the teams below them win their remaining matches and that should give them plenty of motivation to do well.

Of the three title contenders, Callies seem to have the most difficult assignment when they host Highland Spurs at Londt Park. Spurs, who lost 2-0 to Callies in the first round, are lying fourth.

At the bottom of the log, five teams will be playing for survival. Peace United and Motherwell Academy will be playing for their SAB League status when they clash at the Walmer High School field. They are separated by one point and the losers will be relegated.

Despatch Pioneers, who are also facing relegation, must repeat their first-round win over Fairview Rovers at the Saints field to stay alive.

Showvillage United need a draw against Hotspurs to retain their league status.

The fixtures are:

Tomorrow Stars v Lion City (NU9), Showvillage United v Hotspurs (NU2), Callies v Highland Spurs (Londt Park), Sunrise Development (Zwide Stadium), Camper United v Subs (NU9), Fairview Rovers v Despatch (Saints field), Peace United v Motherwell Academy (Walmer High), Central Acemates v Royal Bucks (Westbourne Oval). - Mogan Segadavan
