NMMU, Pretoria through to club championship final

NMMU Port Elizabeth will meet Pretoria University in Centurion today in a repeat of last year's final in the Momentum National Club Cricket Championship.

The two varsities clearly demonstrated their superiority with punishing victories in their final matches yesterday to finish the group matches unbeaten. Tukkies outclassed NMMU George by seven wickets, while NMMU PE demolished University of Johannesburg by 10 wickets.

Tukkies will be seeking a hat-trick of national titles, but NMMU will be keen to change that pattern after showing outstanding form.

Yesterday, they produced a storming finish to their pool matches as they bundled out UJ, their only rivals for the top spot, for a humiliating 73.

Spinner Brad Dolley, who took four wickets in NMMU's win over West End on Saturday, continued to wreak havoc, this time claiming 5/11 in seven overs as he set up his team for their fifth win in a row. Eddie Moore and David White then wasted no time smashing their way to victory, reaching 75/0 in just nine overs.

On Saturday, Dolley took 4/39 against West End and received strong support from Devon Adams (3/19) and captain Simon Harmer (3/35) as they skittled their opponents for 139.

Gihahn Cloete gave the only notable performance with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 40 off 51 balls.

Lloyd Brown and Harmer took NMMU to victory, ending unbeaten on 51 and 36 respectively.

Yesterday, NMMU George posted a total of 173 against Tukkies, with Neil Hornbuckle (36), Tyron Walsh (36) and Hendrik Kotze (33) among the runs.

But Tuks made light of the target, chasing it down in 34.3 overs. - Neale Emslie
