Cuylerville pluck Pineapple title

CUYLERVILLE reclaimed the Pineapple Tournament cricket title in Port Alfred for the first time since 2005 when they defeated Southwell in the final on Saturday.

Batting first in the final, Cuylerville set their opponents 203 for victory, but then rose to the occasion with the ball by dismissing Southwell for 129.

In the cross-pool play-offs, Cuylerville had put paid to Manley Flats' chances of making it a hat-trick of titles with a well-earned victory. After Manleys had totalled a decent score of 253, Cuylerville clinched their place in the final with an impressive response of 254/2.

In the second play-off, Salem's batting failed them at the crucial moment when they were dismissed for 91 by Southwell, who went on to win by eight wickets.

There was consolation for Southwell when their second team won the second league title after a convincing win over Rhodes Shrews. Southwell totalled a daunting 286 and then dismissed the Rhodes team for 184.

Rhodes Rhodents were the first league plate winners, defeating Port Alfred by 100 runs in the final after totalling 254.

Bethesda won the invitation section.
