Daniel Pienaar put St Andrew's to the sword

A DETERMINED effort by Daniel Pienaar saw them inflict a 30-8 defeat on St Andrew's in their schools rugby fixture in Uitenhage at the weekend.

The match started at a furious pace, with both teams creating opportunities. Daniel Pienaar were the first to score thanks to a well-taken penalty before Robbie Ball sliced through the defence to allow scrumhalf Camran Macfarlane to score the opening try for St Andrew's, putting them ahead 5-3.

St Andrew's, however, continued to make errors and panicked on attack, allowing Daniel Pienaar back into the contest. One such error led to Daniel Pienaar's opening try and this allowed them to take a 10-5 lead into half-time.

The second half was much the same as St Andrew's had the ascendancy in the set phases but were being beaten on the ground by a determined team from Daniel Pienaar.

The errors continued to mount and although St Andrew's managed to maintain field position in the second half, they could not convert this dominance into points.

Daniel Pienaar continued to capitalise on their opponents' errors, scoring two break-away tries and a charge down to run out eventual winners 30-8.
