Cape raiders the ones to watch at Fairview

THE two Fairview meetings this week saved the day for South African horse racing.

The industry has lost millions of rands over the last week or so with meetings being cancelled because of rain countrywide.

But on Wednesday, the Friendly City staged a meeting on the, already-famouspolytrack.

Today it is on the grass and it is a lovely card of nine races to look forward to.

It is the day of the fillies with the main attractions two listed races. The Breeders Guineas for three-year-old fillies is over 1600m and the two-year-olds will battle it out over 1200m.

The question, of course, is if the Cape Town raiders will clean up like they did last Friday.

Winter Fantasy, who won the Nursery last year, will carry the local hopes in the Guineas.

There is a strong Cape Town challenge with Sea Cat, She's A Pippa and Shingwedzi all looking like possible winners. This should be a great race.

In the Nursery, it will also be very tough for a PE stable to walk away with first place.

Cotton Candy is one of the visitors that looks very strong but also include Rosier in all bets.

Last Friday, Cape Town trainer Vaughan Marshall dominated with three victories, including the main one, the Ibhayi Stakes.

The Marshall runners helped us to tip you a nice Place Accumulator.

The highlight for me, though, was the first victory of the Glen Kotzen satellite yard.

The PE racing fraternity claimed it as a local win because one of their favourite sons, Lunga Gila, is in charge of the Kotzen yard in PE. It is great to see Lunga getting a real chance to prove himself after years with the Mitch Wiese stable.

ýHorse lovers are asked to support the charity race day of the EC Horse Care Unit on April 4. For companies wishing to sponsor a race or anyone wanting to contribute, contact Dorrie Sham on 082-572-0505.
