Rain delays schools cricket challenge

THE eagerly anticipated Coca- Cola Schools T20 Challenge final qualifier to have been played in Grahamstown yesterday between Selborne and Kingswood was postponed due to inclement weather.

The game was officially postponed at 11am after persistent drizzle made the outfield impossible to play on. The match will now be held tomorrow at 2.30pm at Kingswood. If the bad weather continues and play is not possible, the teams have until Sunday at the latest to play the match.

According to Cricket South Africa youth manager Niels Momberg, if no play is possible by Sunday, the teams must find a venue and engage in a bowl out to see who will progress.

The winners of the match will then represent the Eastern Cape in the colours of the Warriors at the National Schools T20 finals week to be played at the University of Pretoria from March 14-16.

The schools challenge began in October when more than 10000 players from more than 650 schools started their journey to become the school to represent their franchise. - Ross Roche
