Successful Cape Town trip for Grey

GREY High enjoyed a successful cricket trip to the Western Cape at the weekend, defeating Bishops and outplaying Rondebosch, despite being held to a draw.

On Friday, Grey sent Bishops in to bat and although there were some missed chances, the side worked hard as Bishops declared on 225/9 after 73 overs. Michael Carse was the pick of the bowlers with 4/60.

The Grey innings started well, Matt Breetzke and Liam Lindsay posting 83 for the first wicket.

Breetzke played attractively for 70 and when he was dismissed, Grey needed to score at five an over. Cool heads prevailed as Daniel Dutton and Carse saw them to a fine three-wicket victory.

Against Rondebosch, Grey openers Breetzke and Lindsay made hay while the sun shone, reaching 140/0 at lunch. They both fell for 70 and Grey then slid to 214 in 75 overs.

The PE lads came out with guns blazing and opening pair Lutho Sipamla and Kyle Biddulph had Rondebosch in tatters at 10/6.

The Cape side toiled hard to avert defeat and their ninth wicket fell with 16 overs remaining.

Despite trying everything they could, Grey could not capture the final wicket and Rondebosch deserve credit for fighting to the end, finishing on 65/9 after 60 overs.
