Highbury stay on top with Kokstad victory

PORT Elizabeth semi-professional football side Highbury maintained their winning streak when they beat Kokstad Liverpool 2-0 in a Safa Eastern Cape Second Division League at the Kokstad Stad ium on Saturday.

The visitors are confident of claiming the No1 spot in the league after collecting maximum points.

Highbury were quick on the ball when they scored their first goal of the match in the first half.

Liverpool were no match for the visitors, who were determined to pocket the three points. Meanwhile, Kwazakhele-based side Morning Stars were thrashed 6-1 by top-of-the-table contenders Mthatha Bucks at Zwide Stadium on Friday night.

Bucks were in control of the game from the opening minutes and registered their first goal in the first stanza. Stars were doomed when they were unable to clear Bucks' balls away in the penalty area.

In the second half, Stars dominated the ball but were unable to penetrate Bucks' defence. Stars were determined to win the match, having picked up three points last week.

Stars maintain their league position in 11th place with 12 points.

Another Port Elizabeth football side, Real City, were defeated 4-1 by Cloud 9 in a Safa Eastern Cape Second Division League match at King William's Town's Breidbach Stadium.
