Red Sox should give Pirates run for their money

PIRATES scored a remarkable 19-8 victory over Gelvan A thanks to some fine performances from JP Benson, Hein van Loggenberg and Herkie Koekemoer in Eastern Province baseball action at the weekend.

Benson managed two home runs, one of which had three men on base, while Van Loggenberg also hit a home run, batting three out of four (1). Koekemoer also brought in runs, batting four out of five.

Although some resistance was put up by Mervin Johnson and Wall Ah Goo for Gelvan A, Pirates were too strong on the day.

Pirates pitcher Elrich Tolmie is improving with every game and this week he will be tested by the talented Red Sox team, who remain unbeaten this year.

In PE, Despatch Red Sox beat Park Tigers 15-0. Daniel Coetzer was the stand out performer with 12 strike outs and Keith Grobler also hit two home runs.

Melvin le Roux and Coetzer also batted well, bringing in the other runs for Red Sox.
