Ngqaqa spoils sweetness for Nedbank in Valentine's run

ZOLANI Ngqaqa of Madibaz prevented the Nedbank Athletic Club from making a clean sweep at the 10km Metlife Mall Valentine's road race at the weekend.

Nedbank – the EP athletics league champions – filled the top two spots in the women's field and finished second, third and fourth in the men's category on Saturday.

Madibaz's Ngqaqa led the field home in 30 minutes, 46 seconds. Ntombesintu Mfunzi, who is unchallenged in EP roadrunning circles, easily won the women's category in 37:37.

The leading results were:

Senior men: Zolani Ngqaqa 30:46 (Madibaz), Sandile Ngunuza 31:50, Masande Mlonyeni 31:57 (both Nedbank).

Senior women: Ntombesintu Mfunzi 37:37, Banalwa Ngcoko 42:37 (both Nedbank), Tiana Claassen 44:12 (Despatch).

Junior men: Sinawo Kani 50:42 (Motherwell), Ruwallan Viljoen 52: 12 (Temp), Ulrich Bilz 52:54 (Temp)

Junior women: Arne van Heerden 48:56 (Temp), Rebecca Meyer 65:12 (Madibaz), Mieke Roberts 65:50 (Temp)
