Top Bay sides determined to rake in points from road trip

TWO Nelson Mandela Bay Eastern Cape Super 12 club rugby giants will be looking to get maximum points on the road when they travel to East London tomorrow.

Uitenhage's Progress, who have destroyed every side they have come across in their first three games, will lock horns with East London Police at the Police Park in Cambridge.

The Group B encounter promises to be a thriller as both teams play good running rugby and finished second and third respectively last season.

Progress will be on the road for the first time this season, and a victory away will further boost their confidence in the search for silverware. Defending champions Harlequins will tackle Winter Rose at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane.

Quins will be high in confidence after coming from behind to edge out Caltex Crusaders last week. They will also be determined to put Rose to the sword after the Mdantsane side were humiliated by Quins' arch-rivals, Progress, in their last outing.

Even playing away, the experienced northern areas side should make easy work of their opponents as they look to successfully defend their title. In Group A, African Bombers will need to start winning when they host Cambridge in Zwide if they are to stand any chance of going through to the knockout stages.

Having lost their first two games, Bombers will be looking to repay their loyal fans with a win against the visitors.

But Bombers should be careful not to underestimate the fast and furious Cambridge side or they could be severely punished.

Fresh from an emphatic win against Cambridge last week, Kruisfontein will be looking to do the same against Buffaloes at the Humansdorp Country Club. Playing in front of their fans should give the hosts an extra confidence boost.

Kruisfontein started the season better than they did last year and have proved they can score tries – which was sometimes a factor in the last campaign.

This year they seem to have assembled a winning team, but it is still too early to determine how they will perform when they play against some of the league's favourites.

All games kick off at 3.30pm.
