Kings’ Tiger ends playing career, goes into coaching

AFTER a marathon career of 208 first-class matches, fearless EP Kings centre Tiger Mangweni has decided to hang up his boots and take up a new position as defence coach.

An emotional Mangweni, 34, said yesterday there was never a right time for a player to go, but he felt he had retired at the correct moment in his career. Accolades for Mangweni flowed in and Kings president Cheeky Watson led the way, saying the former centre had been a fearless player.

“We saw very clearly when he played No 12 that he did not shy away from tackles or defence. Tiger always relished defending and tackling so it was a no-brainer when it came to him being involved as a defensive coach at the Kings,” he said.
