Subs conquer Killers to get three points

MOTHERWELL semi-professional side Swartkops Valley United Brothers (Subs) maintained their winning streak when they beat Mthatha's Zimbane Killers 1-0 in a Safa Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe second division league match at the NU2 Stadium in Motherwell on Friday.

Dumisane Notshoba scored in the 74th minute.

Killers could have scored early on, but the home side's goalkeeper denied them chances. The teams went into the break without registering a goal.

The visitors came back strongly in the second half and controlled possession but lost focus when they allowed Subs to penetrate into their penalty box.

Later, Subs were all over the Killers in search of maximum points when Notshoba received a loose ball and found the back of the net.

Subs collected three points.

Manager Wonga Hlelani said the team were playing better and better in every match.

"We are happy with the maximum points as we were not promoted to this league just to add to the numbers.

"The game was balanced and Zimbane Killers were not an easy team to beat but we managed to score the goal.

"It was tough and we are hoping to do much better in our next game," Hlelani said.

Meanwhile, the game between Port Elizabeth side Highbury and Matta Milan, of Idutywa, scheduled for the Gelvandale Stadium was called off after the visitors arrived late.

The match was scheduled to start at 7pm but Milan arrived an hour late and the referee decided to cancel it.

Meanwhile, Kwazakhele-based semiprofessional team Morning Stars were demolished 4-1 by Mthatha City in a Safa Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe Second Division league at the Mthatha Stadium on Friday. - Mthetho Ndoni
