Two East Cape varsity players in SA cricket squad

EASTERN Cape students Jerry Nqolo (Fort Hare) and Solo Nqweni (NMMU) were included in the University Sport SA cricket team at the conclusion of the annual varsity tournament in Johannesburg on Friday.

A further two NMMU players, David White and Eddie Moore, were named among the non-travelling reserves for the squad which will compete in next year's Future Cup.

The Ussa Week was won by Pretoria University, who defeated Stellenbosch by 183 runs in Friday's final. The PE Madibaz side ended third.

The teams which have qualified for next year's inaugural Varsity T20 Cup are: University of Pretoria (Tuks), Stellenbosch University (Maties), NMMU Madibaz, North West Pukke, University of Johannesburg, Free State University, University of the Western Cape (UWC), UCT.

The Ussa squad is:

Emile Kriek (Stellenbosch, captain), Bokang Mosena (CUT, vice-captain), Jack Newby (UCT), Richardt Frenz (North West), Sean Dixon (Pretoria), Jerry Nqolo (Fort Hare), Senuran Muthusamy (KZN), Ruben Claassen (Pretoria), Solomzi Nqweni (NMMU), Mpilo Njoloza (UWC), Murray Coetzee (Pretoria), David Mogotlane (Pretoria), Sean Nowak (Pretoria).

Non-travelling reserves: David White (NMMU), Thabo Masheshemane (CUT), Tshepo Ntuli (CUT), Eddie Moore (NMMU), Keegan Petersen (Stellenbosch), Bjorn Fortuin (North West), Martin van Wyk (North West).
