Warriors still hoping for playoffs slot

THE Chevrolet Warriors have three round-robin matches remaining in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge and they know their destiny does not lie completely in their own hands.

The tie against the Titans in Centurion on Sunday has kept the Eastern Cape franchise alive in the race for the playoffs.

After seven matches in the competitions the Warriors have 11 points.

After a sluggish start to the tournament, the team have secured two wins and a tie from their last four matches.

The improvement in their results will have lifted the mood in the camp considerably and they will need to draw on that confidence heading into their last three must-win games.

They start with a tough assignment against the table- topping Cape Cobras at St George's Park on Friday before heading to face the Titans again in Bloemfontein's triple-header on Sunday.

They complete their round- robin programme with another difficult task away to the Cobras in Paarl next Wednesday. At this stage, the Cobras and Lions are favoured to qualify for the playoffs, with 24 and 22 points so far respectively.

That leaves one berth open for the Knights (17), Dolphins (12) and Warriors to fight over.

An optimistic coach Piet Botha said he was happy with a tied game when the dust had settled.

"We will take the three points for the tie because it keeps us in the hunt depending on other results. If we can win all three and maybe a bonus point in between that could still get us to qualify." - Alvin Reeves
