Young Ideas beat Callies to take SAB leg

YOUNG Ideas won the Safa- NMB SAB leg of the Nedbank Cup on Sunday when they beat Callies 4-2 on penalties.

The joint SAB league log- leaders led 1-0 at half time. Leroy van Rensburg equalised for Callies 10 minutes from the final whistle.

Two minutes from time, Callies managed to get the ball in the net but the goal was ruled offside and the match went into penalties.

In the semifinals played on Thursday, Callies beat Ikamva Movers 3-0 after leading 1-0 at the break. Leroy van Rensburg put Callies ahead within five minutes of the kick-off.

In the second half, Sheniel Benn and Farouk Abrahams scored a goal apiece.

In their semifinal, Ideas beat Fairview Rovers.

Only two SAB league matches were played on Saturday.

At the Walmer High School field Motherwell Academy beat Peace United 2-1.

In a surprise result at the Khayamnandi field in Despatch, tailenders Despatch Pioneers held unbeaten Ghetto Stars to a 1-1 draw.

The four matches scheduled for the NU9 Stadium in Motherwell were called off as they clashed with the Mofa league programme.

LOG-LEADERS Manchester United had a close shave on Saturday when they beat Temptation 1-0 to retain their position at the top of the Nodefa VW Community Trust Premier League.

Temptation are one point from the bottom of the log.

United remain the only unbeaten team in the league after Jamaican Stars lost 2-0 to Golden Chiefs.

Stars drop to third place behind City Friends, who beat Kabah United Brothers 2-0.

In a bottom-of-the table clash Khayelitsha beat City Style 3-2 for their first win of the season. Black Aces jumped five places up the league table after thrashing Manchester Babes 4-1.

On Sunday, defending champions Imbabala Young Stars drew 0-0 with Highland Spurs. Last week they drew 2-2 with Chiefs.
