Just 10 days left to enter City half marathon

THERE are 10 days left before the inaugural Nelson Mandela Bay City Half Marathon and 5km Fun Run – time to dust your running shoes off and enter yourself in this epic event next Saturday.

The richest half marathon in South Africa, it offers R350000 worth of prizes, with first prize for the man and woman winners at R35000 each.

Even the 5km Fun Run offers a huge prize of R1200 in vouchers – making it worth dusting your running shoes off.

The first Eastern Province man and woman will receive R5000, while second and third EP runners will bag R3000 and R1000 respectively.

This race is expected to draw the biggest competitive field yet seen in Nelson Mandela Bay.

All roads will be closed from 5am to 11am from Driftsands Drive along Beach Road and Marine Drive to the NMMU back gate.

Athletes who enter before the cut-off on Tuesday will receive a free vehicle pass allowing access from Driftsands or La Roche drive, until 6.20am.

Any late competitor, or one without a vehicle pass, will have to enter at the crossover point at Eighth Avenue, Summerstrand, and Marine Drive (Pick n Pay centre). These vehicle passes will also be available at registration and late entries on Friday evening at the Summerstrand Life Saving Club from 4.40pm to 7.30pm next Friday.

The bright yellow passes must be clearly visible on the car windscreen. Anyone who needs to leave early should not park on the sea side of Beach Road/Marine Drive because no one may leave that area before the race is over.

Entry forms are available at sports shops, or online at whereinpe.co.za

Entry fees: R60 (half marathon) R20 (fun run). Athletes must run in official club colours with race number on the front and licence number on the back of their vests.

All finishers will receive a free pocket-size Coke. Prize giving is in the Coca-Cola arena at 11.15am.
