Dyaloyi to share coaching of Chilli Boys' reserve side

CHIPPA United have appointed Eddie "Veza" Dyaloyi as their development team coach ahead of the new MultiChoice Diski Challenge starting in Durban this weekend.

The former Blackburn Rovers head coach and Bay United assistant coach will partner former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana player Patrick Mayo to prepare the Chilli Boys' reserve side for the Premier Soccer League's U21 Diski Challenge.

Chippa United communications manager Lukhanyo Mzinzi said the club had brought the experience of Dyaloyi and Mayo to assemble a competitive reserve squad for the event.

"The competition starts this coming weekend with eight teams in action but Chippa United will only start their campaign in week two, which will be held in Cape Town at a later stage," Mzinzi said.

"We are still busy engaging with the PSL to bring the Diski Challenge games to our new home in PE," Mzinzi said.

He said the Chilli Boys' reserve side were using Gelvandale Stadium as their training field because the Wolfson Stadium was not yet ready

Dyaloyi said he enjoyed coaching young players.

"Our main objective is to produce quality players who will be promoted to the first team every season, to avoid buying players from elsewhere."

Chippa United recently selected 27 U19 players from around the Eastern Cape through a trial process for the competition, which is for all 16 of the PSL's academy clubs.

He said the existing squad held their first training session this week.

Mayo said he was honoured to be given an opportunity to pass the baton on to the youngsters.

"This is our chance to expose the talent we have in the Eastern Cape because we do have quality players but we didn't have a platform to unveil them."

The primary emphasis of the event is on fast-tracking the clubs' reserve players' into their first teams.

The 16 teams will be split into two groups of eight sides. They will play against each other in their groups before moving into quarters, semis and the final.

A total of 66 matches will have been played when the Diski Challenge ends in March. - Mthetho Ndoni
