Despatch players shine at schools champs

THE Despatch U17 netball team gave a good account of themselves in the SA High Schools netball championship at the weekend.

Although beating Pretoria school Affies 10-9 in a round-robin match, Despatch were eventually knocked out in the playoffs by the same opponents, narrowly losing 11-10.

The Eastern Cape school lost only one other match, going down to Oranje 20-10, while drawing 9-9 with Potchefstroom Gym.

The players have shown great potential this year and have developed into a formidable unit.

The results at the national champs were: drew with Potchefstroom Gymnasium 9-9, beat Affies 10-9, beat Khutsulani High 15-8, lost to Oranje 10-20, beat Brackenfell 17-15, beat Paarl Girls 12-11, lost to Affies 11-10.

The team members were: Geraldine Visser (coach), Maruska Janse van Rensburg, Alizea van Rensburg, Suzanne Swanepoel, Christelle Britz, Chrisma Krause, Stacy-Lee Botha, Sibulele Mandeka, Bianca Blom (captain).
