Callies need to get back to winning ways

IT is still anybody's race in the Nafa Premier League as Bloom Callies, runaway leaders at one stage, appear to be running out of steam.

They have collected just four points from their last four matches and on Sunday, they were held to a 1-1 draw by tailenders Saints.

With six matches remaining, their comfortable nine-point lead has been cut down to just four.

Tomorrow, they take on Fairdene, who beat them 1-0 in the first round. After an excellent start, Fairdene have dropped out of the race and have a 12-point deficit to make up.

They have dropped from first to seventh in just two months.

With five wins in their last six matches, second-placed Hotspurs are back in the frame.

In their last match, the Spurs edged arch-rivals Blackpool 1-0. On Sunday, they are up against Wolves, whom they beat 1-0 in the first round. Wolves are unbeaten in their last three matches and could pose problems for the title contenders.

Park United also seem to be picking up steam after a dismal start. With four wins out of four, United are third, six points behind the log leaders.

United host Blackpool in Arcadia in a must-win match for both teams. Blackpool are tied with Glenville and Westlake in third place.

Champions Glenville face a difficult match against Booysens Pride on the Errol Heynes field. Booysens are unbeaten in their last four matches, with a win over Chatty United, and draws with Blackpool, Westlake and Fairview Rovers.

Saints and Chatty clash in a relegation battle at the Saints field today. They are tied at the bottom of the log, but Saints have a match in hand.

After their draw against Callies last week, Saints will favour their chances of picking up maximum points.

The fixtures are:

Today: Saints v Chatty United (Saints).

Tomorrow:  Park United v Blackpool (Arcadia), Bloom Callies v Fairdene (Finnis 1), Westlake v Helenvale (Windvogel), Fairview Rovers v Stardrift (Finnis 2), Glenville v Booysens Pride (Errol Heynes).

Sunday: Ebenezer v Shamrocks (Gelvan 1), Hotspurs v Wolves (Dyke). - Mogan Segadavan
