Close games on cards in bowls play-offs

MOST of the fancied pairings progressed through their sections in the EP bowls pairs last weekend and will contest the play-off stages this weekend.

The women have only one further round to play, at PEBC tomorrow afternoon, whereas the men have two rounds, both at Western Suburbs.

Champions Karen Korkie and Wendy Williams will have their work cut out in trying to keep Sandra Boardman and Dezi Rosenblatt at bay and all four games could be closely contested affairs.

Some interesting games can also be expected between the men's qualifiers and should they both negotiate the first hurdle, a titanic struggle could develop between Geoff Gowar and Jorge Rodrigues, and Paul Spriggs and Juane Meyer.

Champions Gary Vermaak and Dan Thysse have potentially tricky obstacles in Piet Minnie and possibly Willie Kilian between them and qualification for the finals, to be held next weekend.
