Chilli Boys take on Cosmos in friendly today

CHIPPA United will play another pre-season friendly soccer match against National First Division team Jomo Cosmos at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg today.

This will be the Port Elizabeth-based professional football side's third pre-season match after having faced Santos in Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs in Port Elizabeth.

Chilli Boys assistant coach Roger Sikhakhane said the team was hoping to play five or more friendlies in the Gauteng area before the league begins.

"We've started our training sessions in Johannesburg and so far everything has gone well."

He said the team would also test their strength against Moroka Swallows, Mamelodi Sundowns, Mpumalanga Black Aces and the University of Pretoria while camping in Johannesburg.

The dates and the venues for these games will be confirmed later, but the team is expected to return home on August 1.

"We don't care about the results, because our objective is to find the right combination of players."

Meanwhile, United will unveil their new kit sponsorship deal before the new season kicks off.

The Chilli Boys parted ways with last season's sportswear sponsor Umbro and they were spotted wearing blue and white Adidas jerseys when they were playing their friendly against Kaizer Chiefs.

United chief operations officer Thabiso "Shooz" Mekuto said: "I don't think this is something that we should be discussing because any football team is entitled to choose and change its kit sponsorship every season,

"We are not in a process of finding a new kit gear sponsorship but we know what we will be using next season and we will unveil our kit two days before the season starts."

He said the Adidas jerseys were only used for one match.

Adidas South Africa's football manager and promotions co-coordinator Bob Maphosa said there was no link between United and Adidas SA regarding sponsorship. - Mthetho Ndoni
