COLLEGIATE enjoyed a good set of results in their annual netball and hockey clashes with Kingswood in Port Elizabeth at the weekend.

On a cold and windy Friday, the netball teams locked horns, with Collegiate dominating most of the matches, winning nine of the 11 fixtures.

There was better weather for the hockey clashes on Saturday and Collegiate continued their path of success, winning eight of the nine encounters.

The clash between the first teams was a showcase of exceptionally skilful hockey. Kingswood opened the scoring in the first half with goals from Melissa Lindhorst and Jamilla Mwinyi to lead 2-0 at half time. However, in the second half, Collegiate showed why they are so highly rated, setting the pace from the restart and dominating to the final whistle.

Collegiate hit back with goals from Oriel Ferreira, Lauren Todd and Kiona Sequeira to secure a 3-2 victory.

Collegiate chess players have proved their worth in recent competitions.

Last month, Charlize van Zyl won the best high school girl award at the Eastern Cape Open.

At this event, she also competed against international masters and senior players.

Jesse February has been selected to represent South Africa at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in Glasgow, Scotland, during the holidays.

The Collegiate team of Chanele van Zyl, Charlize van Zyl, Nerissa Morar, Meghan Maartens, Kerryn van Rooyen and Bianca Moodalay have been selected to represent the Nelson Mandela Bay district (U18 girls) at the Top Schools provincial trials in East London on July 4 and 5.
