PE Defence soldier on to shock Hearts

PE DEFENCE proved that their gutsy performance against Callies last week when they were unlucky to lose 2-1, was no flash in the pan after ending Hearts' unbeaten run in the Pefa Premier League.

And the 3-1 victory on Friday evening was even sweeter as it was at the Hearts fortress, The Valley.

The teams were at 1-1 after Mikey Spittal latched on to a cross by Marco Zenios to cancel out the early strike by Lebowa Mocheckgechekge.

In the second half, Defence took command with Songs Lutuka and Ernest Tangeni adding a goal a-piece. And when Hearts did make inroads into the opposition goalmouth area, they found the Defence keeper in outstanding form.

Meanwhile, Londt Park Callies continued their march up the Premier log with a 3-1 win over Highbury.

Kurt Petersen put Callies ahead with a well-taken penalty. Not long afterwards, Darryn Bamboo made the halftime score 2-0. Early in the second half Thulani Gcisa pulled a goal back for Highbury.

With time running out, Sheniel Benn put the issue beyond doubt when he netted Callies' third goal.

On Saturday Motherwell Academy recovered from their 4-1 thrashing by Vodacom NMMU Madibaz last week to beat NMB Municipality 1-0 at Victoria Park.

At the Westbourne Oval Madibaz overcame a determined Central Acemates to maintain their position at the top of the log, and their unbeaten record.

A brace by Cloudius Sagandira and a third by Karabo Motlhabi saw the students win 3-1.

At the EC Defence field, Forresters got back on the winning trail with a close 3-2 win over of Kwadwesi All Stars. After a goalless first half, Kwanele Ntombana and Anele Gadlela (2) scored for Forresters.

In the only match on Sunday Warriors and PE Homerovers drew 2-2 at the Diaz Club.

Gwayi Siphelele and Aphiwe Mngolombane scored for Rovers
