Despatch take gap to thrash Park 101-0

GAP Despatch ran rampant over Park in a 101-0 EP Grand Challenge victory at Londt Park at the weekend.

Despatch, who went in to the game wanting to maintain their 100% unbeaten streak, wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard.

The inexperienced Park side only managed to contain the visitors in the opening five minutes, but once Despatch crossed the tryline it was clear the hosts were in for a drubbing.

Despatch led 36-0 at the interval.

In the second half Despatch continued where they left off and ran away with the game, scoring 12 tries in total.

African Bombers and Spring Rose played to an exciting 17-17 draw in Zwide.

Both sides went into the game high in confidence after winning their previous games, but it was the hosts who led 10-3 at the break.

Rose came back the stronger in the second half and clawed their way back into the clash. But Bombers were determined not to lose to their township rivals and did enough to share the spoils.

At the Uitenhage Central Field, Gardens beat their old foes Progress 35-12.

This was Gardens' second consecutive win over the Uitenhage side after beating them in March to claim the Eastern Cape Super 12 title.

Progress, who wanted revenge for that loss, led 12-10 at half time.

However, the second half was a different story as the Rosedale side maintained their dominance over their neighbours and completed the bonus-point victory.

PE SAPS brought the NMMU back to earth with a well-deserved 12-10 victory at the south campus.

The in-form policemen went into the game wanting to prove their recent 38-7 win over the struggling Harlequins was no fluke and took the game to the students.

After failing to score in the opening minute, SAPS were punished in the 16th minute when NMMU drew first blood with a converted try.

NMMU led 10-0 at the break.

The visitors hit back immediately after the break when their forwards set up a converted try.

SAPS completed the win with an unconverted try after a successful driving maul.
