Teams in night relay battle

THE Investec Night Relay Series returns to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium tomorrow, with more than 100 teams expected to take part in the second round.

The series comprises four rounds and after a successful start last month, tomorrow night's action is expected to be dominated by the super-fit teams from Transnet, who enjoyed impressive wins in both the men's and mixed categories last month.

However, series champions Gamble Pharmacy are not a team to be underestimated and will be determined to make a comeback after the first round setback.

Investec have several top teams entered this year and will be keen to step back on to the winning podium this week, particularly in the women's and mixed team categories where they were first and second respectively in the first round. The women's teams from Wimpy and Access Management will also be trying to stay in medal contention, but can expect tough competition from the at PW Harvey outfit.

In the walking category, the social BWB Dream Team achieved a massive win last month and will be hard to beat, but the Rawstron family and Whitfield Fintax will certainly not be giving up the chase.

"We are anticipating another great turnout for round two with good weather predicted for Thursday night," Mike Zoetmulder of Zports said. "The Investec Night Relay offers companies a great team-building opportunity in the quiet winter months and also affords us the opportunity to support Kamvalethu, the only drop-in centre for street kids in Port Elizabeth, situated just down the road from the stadium."

Tomorrow's event starts at 6pm with teams registering at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium from 4.30pm. The prize-giving takes place at 8.30pm.
