Setback for Highbury in Dutywa

PORT Elizabeth semiprofessional football side Highbury played to a 1-1 draw against Matta Milan in an Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League match at the Ngumbela Sports Ground in Dutywa on Saturday.

The visitors dropped two crucial points in their championship title challenge.

Athini Bhisha opened the scoring in the second half to put his side in the lead, but the home team equalised in the last minutes.

Highbury coach Garth Dickinson said the game was tough and balanced for both sides in the first half, but they had been hoping to score an early goal before the break.

"We had great chances in the first stanza but we failed to convert. But my boys played according to our instructions. We had a great game but I'm disappointed that we didn't collect the maximum points."

He said they were still in the championship title race.

Meanwhile, another Port Elizabeth outfit campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League, Morning Stars, were defeated 2-1 by Cloud Nine at the Ginsberg Stadium in King William's Town on Saturday.

The Zwide side are struggling to reach the top-eight position before the end of the league's season.

Stars coach Siyabulela Isaac said the match was challenging for his troops, but they were gunning for the top 10 spot before the end of the season.

"I'm not happy with the results and we need to win our remaining games to better our league position.

"We are in a good position and we'll never be relegated. I'm hoping we will do better in our next game." - Mthetho Ndoni
