100 teams in night relay

THURSDAY night saw a great start to the Investec Night Relay Series at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, with just under 100 corporate teams taking part despite strong wind.

The five runners from Transnet proved too strong for champions Gamble Pharmacy when their men's Transnet Lions team completed the 25km distance in a time of one hour, 21 minutes, some two minutes faster than last year's champions who have vowed to make a comeback after their Olympic runner, Lusapho April, was unable to attend.

The Sage team, the Flying Sages, rounded up the top three in 1:36.

Transnet continued their domination on the night with their second team claiming gold in the mixed division from the Investec and the Rushmere & Noach teams, while the women from Goldberg & De Villiers won their division in a time of 2:06 from hosts Access Management, with Investec third.

The next round of the Night Relay will take place on June 12 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium starting at 6pm.

Companies keen to enter for the first time need to register online to receive a series number. Entry fee is R500 for a five-person running team and R300 for a three-person walking team.
